‍

maskihkiy wellness works from a circular and seasonal framework. rather than following a conventional hierarchy, we honour the skills, gifts and wisdom each person carries, working collaboratively to shape what we offer and share with community.

our interconnected circle of Elders, project-based supports and internal stewardship bundle carriers work together to guide maskihkiy and offer genocide-informed, reciprocal medicine through mental health supports, land-based wellness and training.

owiyasiwêwak is nêhiyawêwin (Cree) for those who lead and uphold our work.

over the next few moons, meet the owiyasiwêwak — our stewardship bundle team.

what drew Ben to work with maskihkiy

‍I have been helping out with some of the pipe ceremonies over the past year. I love the creativity and imagination I have experienced within the community and the commitment to land lead healing work.

Ben was asked by our okimâw Dr. Karlee Fellner to hold maskihkiy’s learning and development bundle and he graciously accepted, joining maskihkiy’s owiyasiwêwak stewardship bundle team. He quickly began delving into development of a hide tanning cultural offering which will span the seasons as community comes together to journey with their grief and healing through hide tanning work. As a hide tanner, artist, musician and poet, Ben brings creativity deeply rooted in love for the land. Ben has also been part of the creation of the learning lodge!

‍one medicine gift Ben carries and shares with the world

‍I feel most alive when I am working on the land and helping make connections, relational, creative, emotional or spiritual. I love to imagine possibilities and solve problems through exploration. I was taught that whatever we feel most alive while we are doing it, usually points to our gifts and medicines.

A hobby/interest that feeds Ben

I love to be in the water and explore / experience allowing my body to be in many different bodies of water.
